FOX8 WGHP, the Greensboro television station, reported on April 14, 2026 that a Greensboro military veteran had a new roof on his home thanks to a donation from Skyline Exterior Group. The station’s photo showed Grady Bendel shaking hands with founder Brian Rice.
What the station reported
Grady Bendel is a single father raising two daughters. He lost his leg in an IED strike in Afghanistan. Veterans Bridge Home, the Charlotte-based veterans organization that helps people across North Carolina with housing, employment, health, and mental health services, got involved, and Skyline donated the roof.
The station asked Rice why. He explained that when he applied to have his own VA disability rating updated, a friend helped him through it and asked only that he pay it forward. “This is me paying it forward,” Rice told FOX8.
Why it matters
This was the first television coverage of the 100 Roof Promise, and the first time Rice explained its origin publicly: a veteran founder who got help and built the company to return it. The roof was installed on March 28, 2026, in a single day, the same timeline as most Skyline roof replacements.
